Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Secures First Championship in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Presently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.
It is the player's initial championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from that period of the previous year.
The win also signifies he has secured 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children together, so to secure a title is really nice," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in Halle in the past months.
His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.
But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.
Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the final five games to go ahead.
The pair swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional title, took control to create a decider.
The opponent defended 4 early-game opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Appropriately, he clinched the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
